Golf Driver Glossary
In this golf driver glossary we will collect all golf driver related terms and explanations. If you feel something is missing, feel free to contact us.
Center of Gravity - That point in the clubhead where the most mass is located.
Clubface - The surface of the clubhead that hits the ball.
Clubhead - The part of a golf club that strikes the ball.
Dogleg - A bend in the fairway.
Drive - the first shot of each hole, made from an area called the tee box.
Driver - The longest club designed to hit the ball the farthest distance usually from a tee.
Driving Range - A place where several golfers can practice their tee shots and other strokes.
Fairway - The area of the course between the tee and the green that is well-maintained allowing a good lie for the ball.
Fat Shot - A shot on which the club hits the ground before it hits the ball, resulting in loss of distance.
Follow-Through - The portion of the swing after the ball has been struck.
Fore - A warning called out to those who may be in danger from the flight of the ball.
Launch Angle - The angle at which the ball comes off the clubface.
Loft - A measurement, in degrees, of the angle at which the face of the club lies relative to a perfectly vertical face. Loft gives you an idea of how far and how high the ball will go when you hit it with your driver.
Out of Bounds - The area designated as being outside the boundaries of the course.
Shaft - Long golf club component to which the head and grip are attached. Early shafts were made out of wood. Then steel became the standard and now graphite is very common.
Slice - Poor shot that, for a right-handed golfer, curves sharply from the left to the right.
Sweet Spot - The dead center of the club face.
Topped - An errant shot where only the upper half of the golf ball is struck.
Yardage Rating - An evaluation of the playing difficulty of a hole based solely on the distance from tee to green.
